Commonwealth Care of Roanoke (CCR) awarded the scholarships at a luncheon on November 4, honoring the three Radford students. The scholarships cover full tuition and provide an employment arrangement with CCR upon graduation.

CCR’s CEO Debbie Petrine and President David Tucker presented the awards, along with Delores Darnell, CCR’s Chief Clinical Officer and Lora Epperly, the Director of Business Development and Care Innovations. All four acknowledged the hard work and character of the scholarship winners. Stephanie Francis and Molly Rose Elliott Brunfield-Horner are students at Radford University’s School of Nursing in Radford, Virginia. Kennise Baker is a senior pursuing her Bachelors of Social Work with a minor in Health and Aging.

The scholarships, funded by CCR in partnership with the Radford University Foundation, cover full in-state tuition for the awardees. CCR also provides a position upon graduation, and students agree to work for CCR for as many years as their education is funded.

The Lucy Wohlford Service & Excellence in Nursing Scholarship is named in honor of a Radford University alum who served as Director of Nursing at St. Alban’s Sanitorium and later at Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Blacksburg, as well as serving as the corporate quality assurance nurse for Heritage Hall centers.
